Frequently Asked QuestionsHow do I prepare for a Shiatsu Therapy Treatment? Please wear loose comfortable clothing for the treatment. Also clients are asked to arrive 10 minutes early to provide a history that is important for the treatment as Shiatsu Therapy is tailored to the specific symptoms or pain you are experiencing. Based on your symptoms, the meridians that the therapist works during your session correspond to specific organs and the flow of energy called "chi". How Many Treatments will I need? The number of treatments depends on the pain or symptoms you are experiencing or if you simply just want to achieve relaxation. Initially, it is recommended to have a treatment once per week for 4 or 6 weeks. Is Shiatsu Painful?Shiatsu Therapy is relaxing and revitalizing and you do not have to have specific symptoms to benefit from a treatment. Pain along a meridian is the body's signal that an imbalance exists in the meridian system. A skilled practitioner will locate these areas and apply appropriate pressure within the client's comfort zone to release tension and restore flow of "chi" and the healing process begins. Is Shiatsu Covered by Extended Health Care Plan?A receipt from the registered therapist is provided. Shiatsu Therapy is covered by some extended health care plans, and the Association is actively campaigning to have it covered by as many Extended Health Care providers as possible. If your plan does not already have Shiatsu coverage, please ask for it! Receipts are provided should you have coverage.
